Complexion is everything when it comes to beautiful makeup. If you want to keep yourself looking fabulous and flawless then it’s all in the prep! You can manipulate your complexion based on how you prep the skin. I’m going to share my 5 tips to achieving your best complexion yet!
So let’s get started:
Skincare Skincare Skincare
I cannot stress enough the importance of good skincare. Beautiful skin means beautiful makeup! The more you do with your skin the less you’ll have to do with your makeup. Start double cleansing, find a good eye cream, serum and moisturiser that meet your skin concerns and treat yourself with a mask once or twice a week. Invest in a great skincare routine and you will see amazing differences in your skin – trust me.
Cleanse and Exfoliate
If you’re not cleansing and exfoliating your skin properly and regularly, then you’re most likely setting yourself up for a textured finish. All the little dead skin cells sit on the surface of your skin and makeup will only grab on to those areas and enhance them. Start manually exfoliating once or twice a week, it will change your makeup game and your skin will love you for it!
Not to prime is a crime
You’ve heard it all before, priming is so important, but only when what you’re using serves a purpose. Make sure you’re using the primer that’s right for your skin. Our skin tends to change from environmental aggressors. Yes, you can be oily but very dehydrated, so i’m all for multi-priming. Go ahead and use different primers to achieve the look you’re going for, especially when it comes to using different techniques like strobing.
Find a base that works well for YOUR skin
We don’t all have one skin type, don’t buy a foundation just because it looks good on someone else’s skin. Whether its a foundation or tinted moisturiser, find something that works well for your skin. Look for colour, finish and texture. Get your booty into store and try it on before you purchase, the skin on your hand is different to the skin on your face, so its really important to see how the finish sits on your face. You don’t always need to go for a full coverage foundation, you can look absolutely flawless with a tinted moisturiser, so once again..only use something your skin needs!
Leave the cake for Michel’s Patisserie
On to the application! The number one mistake most people make is applying too much foundation, especially when its not needed. Apply enough to even out your skin and build up only in the areas where you need it. Remember, concealer is your bestfriend when it comes to those pesky blemishes. Lets be real, you don’t need to build up 85 layers of foundation to cover one whitehead. Fingers are your best tool, the heat from your fingers help to emulsify the product, so don’t be afraid to use them in conjunction with your other makeup tools. Always remember, makeup is there to enhance your features, not to mask it!
